PV Design Engineer

The PV Design Engineer will report to the head of the engineering department and be primarily responsible to produce all engineering needs of the Business Development team and the transition of projects from the development team to the execution team. Additionally, the design engineer will also have a significant role in establishing and maintaining the company’s internal PV system design standards and component selections. As Verogy is a small emerging company, many of its employees are tasked out with additional responsibilities that may be outside of the traditional scope of work for their designated job title. It is the intention that over time and internal capacity increases, Verogy will hire to solve for the additional responsibilities. As one of the first hires in the Engineering, Procurement & Construction department, the additional responsibilities of the PV design engineer would be to support the project manager with the execution of engineering and construction activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create PV system layouts for business development team utilizing Aurora, Helioscope, AutoCAD and other specialized software platforms.
  • Produce system production estimates utilizing PVSyst and other like industry specific programs.
  • Develop preliminary system budgets to be reviewed by the execution team.
  • Attend client meetings with the business development professional to support the development effort and obtain necessary system design information.
  • Support the BD team in transitioning projects from development to execution.
  • Assist in the establishment of the company’s PV system design standards
  • Assist the procurement team with technical review and modeling of major system components.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist the project management team in any way that they may need support, which may include but is not limited to the following:
    • Engineering support
    • Project management support
    • On-site construction & engineering survey supervision

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Prior experience is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Design Codes & Standards, and other governing standards for design of solar PV systems.
  • Experience with PV System design tools such as Helioscope or Aurora is a plus.
  • Experience with PV System Energy Modeling tools, specifically PVSyst is a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with AUTOCAD.
  • The ability to work in a rapidly evolving environment and developing creative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively.

Required Licenses or Experience

  • Professional Engineer License is not required but is a plus.
  • NABCEP Certification is not required but is a plus.

Project Manager

The Project Manager (PM) will report to the head of the construction department and will be directly manage all aspects of the engineering, procurement and construction of the PV solar projects in which they are assigned.  These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.


  • Manage the design and construction of PV solar systems from conception to completion.
  • Manage the system design process in coordination with client, developer and engineer’s
  • Manage the permitting process with all applicable authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ)
  • Manage the utility company interconnection process
  • Manage the projects budget and costs and report on them on a weekly basis
  • Create and manage the project schedule and report on progress on a weekly basis
  • Manage subcontractor RFP process
  • Negotiate with vendors, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Manage subcontractor invoicing and change-order processes
  • Coordinate and direct both Verogy on-site staff and installation subcontractors
  • Coordinate all inspection’s with AHJ’s and Utility companies
  • Manage project commissioning & closeout
  • Manage the transition of a project from construction to operations

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or equivalent relevant field experience.
  • Solar / Electrical experience is not required but is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, processes and equipment
  • Experience managing budgets for large commercial construction projects
  • Ability to read construction drawings and related engineering documentation
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with MS Excel, MS Project, Outlook, etc.
  • AutoCAD experience is not a requirement but is a plus
  • The ability to work in a rapidly evolving environment and develop creative solutions to problems.
  • The ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate construction efforts across multiple projects at a time

Required Licenses or Experience

  • OSHA 30
  • Solar / Electrical experience
  • NABCEP Certification is not required but is a plus
  • PMP certification is not required but is a plus
